Hubble Finds 'Smoking Gun' After Gamma-Ray Blast

NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope recently provided the strongest evidence yet that short-duration gamma-ray bursts are produced by the merger of two small, super-dense stellar objects. Compass and Scale Image for GRB 130603B. The galaxy (SDS J112848.22+170418.5) which resides almost 4 billion light-years away, produced the gamma-ray burst. Image Credit: NASA, ESA, and Z.
